ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH’S SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN’S SOCIETY

All Saints’ Church in Lime Walk, Headington has supported the work of the Children’s Society over many years, with the proceeds of its annual Christmas Bazaar donated each year to that charity.  The church is particularly pleased with its efforts over the recent Christmas period enabling it to contribute almost £1,300 to the Children’s Society.  The Bazaar raised £1,040 at the end of November and this was augmented by nearly £250 raised by the generosity of the congregation at the very well attended Christingle Service on Christmas Eve.

This excellent result reflects the hard work put into the Bazaar by Valerie Boulter and a large team of helpers.  The church was delighted that the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Jean Fooks, opened the Bazaar and spent time visiting the stalls and talking to stallholders.  The event marked the start of All Saints’ Christmas celebrations, and the pervading happy atmosphere was enhanced by some lively music with carols sung by the Headington Junior (Preparatory) School and traditional Christmas tunes played by the Kennington (Oxford) Silver Band.  The fundraising was assisted greatly by the donation of raffle and other prizes from a large number of local Headington businesses.

The very popular Christingle Service was arranged and led by James Larminie, one of All Saints’ Licensed Lay Ministers, who is also one of the Oxford Diocese ‘Ambassadors’ to the Children’s Society.  He commented:

‘The Children’s Society helps thousands of vulnerable young people in this country every year. Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for some, and it’s great that the people of the parish have been so generous.’
