Summer Festival of Music and the Arts 2018

Every year, the beautiful church of All Saints' in Headington plays host to a festival of music and the arts, given for free to the local community. This is a series of free events on Wednesday evenings during the Summer, each starting at 8pm in the church. This year we have a varied and interesting programme of music and talks, from the 4th of July until the 29th of August.

Alongside returning festival favourite Aileen Thomson, we have the cream of talent from Oxford and London, and of course a concert from our very own choir.

This year's line-up features:

4 July - Opening Recital 'Mid Summer Dreams'
The Oxford Brookes Nursing & Midwifery Choir (conductor Liz Jestico) and the Radlciffe Camerata (conductor Tim Robson) present an evening of light choral music and songs from the shows.  As the members of both choirs are medical / healthcare professionals, it seems fitting that this concert is held on the eve of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the National Health Service.

11 July - Joe Mason reveals the musical glories of the All Saints' Organ
We are fortunate to have Joe Mason, currently Stipendiary Lecturer in Music at New College, Oxford and who normally plays for Evensong at All Saints give us an interesting programme of popular music for the organ.

18 July - The Recorder Club of St. Luke's Church, Chelsea, London
Travelling from London to give us a short concert of interesting recorder music from the Renaissance and present day.  For details click here.

25 July - Stories in the Windows of All Saints
A fascinating tour of the stained glass in All Saints Church, led by the Vicar. "Why an anchor?" "Why are there three little boys in a tub?" "Where can you find four living creatures in the Bible?"  Old Testament? New Testament? Or both?!

1 August - A Year in the Life of  All Saints' Choir
A musical stroll through the feasts and festivals from Advent to All Saints', conducted by our new Director of Music, Rory Moules.  Featuring music from Praetorius to Warlock, including Stanford and Tallis.

8 August - Harp and Voice
A Recital of Folksongs by the sisters Autumn Le Lievre and Liz Jestico. Autumn will be travelling with her harp from Guernsey in the Channel Islands and Liz is a member of the All Saints' Choir.

15 August - Aileen Thomson, soprano
Aileen makes a welcome return visit to the All Saints' Festival with an interesting program of music including pieces by Schumann and Richard Strauss. For details click here

22 August - Martin Hall, Organ Recital
Martin was the organist at All Saints' forty years ago and returns with an interesting program of organ music for us.

29 August - John Webster 'Scepticism and Belief in the younger Romantic Poets'
